About the Author
Peter Sander has written forty-three books, including Value Investing for Dummies and Personal Finance for Entrepreneurs as well as 101 Things Everyone Should Know About Economics. The real numbers are in and they are not good.

The problem with this book is that they are giving you 6+ month old information. In the book, they compare their 2015 gains against the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (Symbol: SPY) and claim to have beaten it $15,008 (gains + dividends) to $12,491 (gains) based on the $100,000 buy in. For those who would have done the same thing over the past year (after the 2015 book was released) would have seen the results below. This is based on the same $100,000 buy in as they outline in there book on page 28 and 29. Although these numbers are based on the 2015 book, most of the timeline is for the 2016 book with only 10 stocks being changed from 2015 to 2016.

I have been running the numbers on these books for the past few years, but going from December to December (since we cant get the book before then) and have never seen what they claim to have gotten, although this year is the first loss.

Peter Sander's "the 100 best stocks" books are great

Peter Sander's "the 100 best stocks" books are great. Some people have a problem with the gap of time it takes from them to select the stocks and then go through the writhing and publishing stage to the release in November (a process that Sander admits takes about six months), but I don't have a problem with it and here's why. First off Sander isn't really a huge gambler when he picks his stocks. He's not all that risky despite his returns, rarely do you see him picking stocks under $30 so unless a well established company really screws up you're not really late on anything. He also isn't choosing these stocks for position trading or trading of that nature where you have to know the latest information and act fast. He states that he believes in picking stocks that will not only have a positive outcome for this year but also for many years to come, which is why the list doesn't change much from year to year. This year he changed 14 companies but in past years he's changes as little as five proving that most of his picks are still considered positive by the time of the new release. Finally he has the credentials, he's written a few books, he explains why and how he choses the companies he does, and he really has beaten the S&P six years in a row.
This IS NOT a book for day traders, or short term traders of any sort. He offers up a portfolio of growing/ large businesses with the possibility of honest returns. You will not find any up and coming hidden gems in this book but you will find a collection of solid picks to add to any portfolio.

Buying Stocks—a tried and true resource to strengthen your portfolio in 2017

I’ve been investing for decades and have made some good and bad purchases. In a quest to reduce the missteps, I came across this book many years ago and have been buying it annually. I am an avid fan of this body of knowledge. This book began in 2000 and the original author was John Slatter. Peter Sander and Scott Bobo took over the writing in 2010. A book that has withstood the test of time for this number of years you can be sure it is doing a lot right.

I am a former law librarian (intellectual property law) and spent the formative years of my career doing complex business, technical and legal research. I mention this because I respect research and have seen time and again how it won lawsuits. There is this mistaken view that if you ‘Google It” you have done your research. This is not true, especially for complex topics like finances and investing. Taking the time to evaluate a business is an effort worth making before pulling the trigger to buy a stock. The authors of this work know how to do financial research. Each of the 100 entries validate their talent. In my opinion this is a real value to anyone who buys this book.

And, in the last few years, they’ve begun to include some recommendations on ETFs, page 65, many of which are well worth consideration.

The landscape of investing keeps evolving and the days of buy and hold are behind us. Many of us want to supplement our income stream with wise financial stock/ETF purchases and this book can assuredly support you. And, from a pure reading experience the book is more than instructive; it is well written and entertaining.

This book is unique in that each entry gives the individual investor a clear picture into the business and includes a ‘reason for caution’ because there is rarely such a thing as a ‘sure thing’ when it comes to the prediction of a stock buy because the world is complicated and things occur no one saw coming that can impact stock performance.

If you want to strengthen your portfolio with some new acquisitions in 2017 reading this book is an excellent method to improve decision-making. 2017 has the potential of being more prosperous for those individual investors who make time to acquire and read this classic book.

MRCS, Surgical Sciences Examination, Orthpaedic Primary Basic Sciences Exam; for SET program (Australia)

I used this text for Orthpaedic Primary Basic Sciences Exam (OPBS), as it was the recommended text (Part 2 Australian Surgical Education and Training (SET) program).

I used the 10th Edition for the Surgical Sciences Examination (SSE), as it was the recommended text (Part 1 Australian Surgical Education and Training (SET) program)

I passed both exams first time using these texts (and the other recommended texts). 11th is an easier read, and can be knocked off a lot quicker than the 10th. It is better-written, but does not go into too much detail. Having said that, the bulk of the anatomy questions in the exam were taken, word-for-word, from Last's 10th Edition. After a post-exam dissection of the questions we could recall, we did not find all the answers in the 11th Edition, but all were in the 10th Edition.

The 10th descriptions are good, but it takes more time to digest; it is HARD reading!! I could only get through 20-25 pages a week while working full-time. The diagrams are, in general, confusing and not in colour (11th Edition has colour). Having said that, many questions in the exam were taken directly from these woeful black and white diagrams and sketches. The text needs to be read in conjunction with another pictorial anatomy text. I used Atlas of Human Anatomy: With Netteranatomy.com (Netter Basic Science) -fantastic companion text!

I personally prefer the 10th Edition. I only read the relevant chapters of 11th Edition (UL,LL, spine, pelvis, CNS) and i thought it was not enough detail.

Some of the questions can be from the very, very fine print. Apart from the CNS chapter, you need to have been through the whole book at least once. For example, one question in the October 2008 SSE was about lunate dislocations. I couldn't recall reading anything about it in Last's during my study. But a post-exam analysis revealed a single line, at the very end of the upper limb chapter, which contained the information required to answer the question (10th Edition only).

The 11th Edition is unlikely to be sufficient to answer all questions for the SSE and OPBS exams. I would recommend reading the 10th Edition only.

The Australian Orthopaedic Association has re-written 570 questions for the OPBS exam this year (2009). This means that the chances of repeat questions is close to zero. I counted zero repeat anatomy questions in the 200 that we were presented with for the Feb 2009 exam. As the exam shall be held twice (2009), once (2010), twice (2011) etc, the chances of repeat questions (if you are unlucky enough to have to sit it again), is low.

The pocketbook edition of Last's - don't buy it!

What has Chummy done?
The bible for anatomists - Last's - has suffered it's worse insult yet, following the editing done by the new author. What was once comprehensive, is now much shorter, lacking in detail, and inconsistant. Where does the right phrenic pierce the diaphragm? With or next to the IVC? Through the IVC foramen or piercing the tendon? Both appear in the text... muscles have gained new origins, and interosseus planes cease to exist!
Whilst maintaining an economical writing style, the only saviour to the text is the superb diagrams and pictures carried over from previous editions - each really does tell a story of a thousand words, which is useful, because the text doesn't.
If you can, find a copy of the ninth edition - the best yet!

From a medical students perspective

This textbook is one which I would recommend to any medical student learning anatomy,or any surgical trainee. It is very clear and concise in terms of text, and very detailed. The diagrams are a bit poor, but if you use it in conjunction with an anatomy atlas, you should have no problems. It's finest feature, and the one which has led me to rave about it so much is that it is very clear regarding the general principles of anatomy, and this has helped me no end to understand the subject fully - a definite prerequisate to knowing the subject. Good sourdough flavor right away. I used my starter developed from this packet to produce enough starter to bake 40, 1lb loafs, for a large spaghetti dinner. We used 9 bread machines set to dough cycle, two loafs per machine with a double run on some machines. I added a teaspoon of active dry yeast to each two loaf batch to speed up the rise. Needless to say, I had some help! The bread received rave reviews from the diners.

A small wonder book and the culture that accompanies it is amazing.
5 stars for the culture itself. Ihaven't had very good luck with the store bought cultures
but this one picked up right off the bat. Booklet is interesting.

About the Author
is an attending physician and Clinical Professor, at NJ Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center, Seton Hall- School of Graduate Medical Education, and Montefiore Medical Center. Dr.Greenfield specializes in general, forensic and consulting psychiatry, and addiction medicine and has been in private practice since 1980. . He has written nearly 100 articles in professional journals including J. Psychiatry and Law, Consulting to Management, J. Forensic Psychiatry, American J. of Forensic Psychology; book author PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE: How Prescription Drug Abuse Contributes to the Drug Abuse Epidemic, Charles C. Thomas, 1995; over 15 book chapter contributions including Encyclopedia of Criminology and Deviant Behavior (T&F: 2000), and Mental and Emotional Litigation in Employment Law (BNA Books, 2006).
